Consul’s Activity Discontinued

From March 2013 onwards, the Embassy of Ukraine discontinued the activities of their consul in České Budějovice, for the activity was insufficiently funded.

Diocesan Charity Looks for a Volunteer to Assist Temporarily with Folding Clothes

The EVA Counselling Center for girls and women in need was caught in crisis operation. Thus, they’d need a volunteer to help them with the closet organisation from the beginning of May 2013. It would mean helping one day a week for 1-2 hours, which in total means helping approximately four times. We are asking for help, because three out of five of our workers are currently ill, or are taking care of their sick children. The two who remained healthy have to take care of the whole Center and they daily provide help to approximately 20 clients. In the following text, you will learn further details about work which is done in the closet.

Course of English Commenced on March 12

On March 12, the Counselling Centre for Foreigners and Migrants commenced a course of the English language for foreigners.

New types of wafers - UNITA Ltd.

Plant Unita Ltd. in Bílá Voda close to Javorník where communion wafers are produced has recently widened its range of goods. Newly Bílá Voda will supply places of pilgrimage and spa centres with traditional round wafers with various flavours but also with three-corned wafers (triangles) with chocolate or peanut flavour. Thanks to new machines for wafers baking the production will be multiply larger which will bring new job vacancies. New premises and machines were blessed by the bishop of Ostrava-Opava diocese František Václav Lobkowicz on Wednesday 11th May. The development of company which is in property of Diocesan Caritas Ostrava-Opava was enabled by grant received from Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovations (Ministry of Industry and Trade).

The Epiphany Collection Has Finished

The thirteenth Epiphany Collection in the České Budějovice diocese has successfully finished. The proceeds of the Collection are CZK 4,025,130 which is CZK 154 624 more than it was the previous year. There were 51 registered places where the carollers went carol-singing in order to raise money to support social and humanitarian projects both in our region as well as abroad.

Free Soups for Homeless People in České Budějovice Since 2010

Cold? Hunger? Homeless? St. Paul Home helps the homeless people in České Budějovice. Homeless people, who for some reason decided to stay on the street even though they were offered asylum, can turn to the premises of the shelter every working day in order to eat something and warm up a bit. St. Paul Home provides these people with hot soups. In the following text, you will find out that we have been preparing food for the homeless since 2011, during the winter time even on Saturdays. You will also learn who prepares the food during the weekends and who hands it out.

New Year and New Horizons!

AKA Internet connection in clubroom U Palečka

New era of endless possibilities is ahead of us. Thanks to the novelty which will be introduced on Thursday January 16, 2013, it is now possible for the socially disadvantaged children to access the Internet with help of our volunteers in the clubroom. In this text, we will attempt to explain why we deem it important for the children to learn how to use the Internet.

Late Afternoon Interest Group for Children of Foreigners

The Counselling Centre for Foreigners and Migrants is starting with a new project called “Late afternoon interest group”. This project will provide children with an opportunity to play games, create hand-crafted products out of various materials, and sing etc... In other words, to spend their time after the school teaching is over in a pleasant way.

Donate Sledge or Plastic Sled for Children and Their Volunteers

Snow fell in České Budějovice and we were told that much more is going to fall, which is good news for all children! Thus, we would like to ask you if you could be please so kind and donated sledge so the children accompanied with the volunteers could enjoy the winter time. In the following text you will find out why it is “not enough” to go down the hill on plastic bags and more importantly, where to bring the sledge or the plastic sled.

Correspondence with Prisoners – is it of any use?

We, the staff of the Diocesan Charity in České Budějovice, often ponder if this or that activity we do is of any use. If we didn´t think about the things in the way we do think about them – that is critically, with examining the practical outcomes and sometimes even doubting – there would be a risk that our activities might remain flat and shallow.
