Fire in Kwekwe Children´s Home
Tragic news from Kwekwe, Zimbabwe – on May 28 at 10 p.m., a fire broke out in one of the bedrooms in the orphanage.
It was very difficult to evacuate all the children, as the fire was spreading too quickly. Unfortunately, we failed to rescue one of our boys, nine-year-old Aaron Kunak, whose funeral took place on May 30. Another boy, seventeen-year-old Takudzwa, was also seriously injured and is still in hospital, but he is fortunately recovering very well.
We are devastated by this tragedy, the other children are safe and sound, but still in the state of shock. Unfortunately, four rooms had completely burnt down and the whole roof had to be taken down. We have started the reconstruction of the rooms so that the children had an adequate place to live at.
With much love from Amaveni
