Story of Mr. and Mrs. Novák
Mr. and Mrs. Novák (both 60-year-old) came to the Intervention Centre after their son (25) was expelled from their household. Their son was a child that was prayed for; however, he was very problematic from his early childhood. His behaviour has always been strange and it grew worse with time.
The parents had difficulties with handling their son, whose behaviour towards them was aggressive, he was using abusive language, and he was also engaged in criminal activities. The parents later on found out that it was because of his drug addiction, since he needed money for getting drugs. The drugs caused a development of a psychiatric disorder accompanied with delusions during which the son believed that his parents were going to hurt him. The parents tried to communicate with him, but all the efforts came to nothing. Gradually, the son started attacking the parents physically, too. The Nováks repeatedly called the Police in, the situation got slightly better, but then it started all over again. The last incident was so serious that the Police expelled the son from his parent’s household so that the Nováks were safe.
While consulting in the Intervention Centre, the Nováks were offered various ways of dealing with their situation. They pitied their son and they did not want to take neither a court action and nor could they imagine their son becoming homeless.
After the ten days their son had to stay away from their flat, they took him back home and stopped cooperating with the Intervention Centre.
Some time later, the situation repeated all over again, but they refused any help provided by the Intervention Centre right away.
