Great Song-Writer Okudzhava to Be Commemorated at Horká Vana
An excellent artist, chanson singer, guitarist, writer, poet and also a sensitive man; all these can describe in the Czech Republic immensely popular Bulat Okudzhava, who passed away fifteen years ago, on June 12, 1997 in Paris.
Jiří Vondrák, who started his career as early as at the turn of 1970s, influenced by song-writers such as Bob Dylan, Vladimir Vysotsky and also by Okudzhava himself, will commemorate his memory on Friday, June 8 at Horká Vana club in České Budějovice. Jiří Vondrák makes his living by professional music since 1979. The support singer at this event is Ivan Hubal, the Ukrainian musician, who will perform the Okudzhava´s songs in original – in Russian. The concert is organised by the Counselling Centre for Foreigners and Migrants, DCČB. The entrance fee is 80 CZK.
Bulat Okudzhava´s songs, with his original way how to perform them and accompanied on an atypical seven-string guitar, became highly popular. He was famous mainly for his lyrical songs, but he used to be an author of historical novel and novellas, too. He is also the author of collections of poems from which one of the most beautiful is “Arbat, my Arbat”.
His texts gained worldwide fame and in the Czech Republic, they are translated and sung for example by Jaromír Nohavica.
